Inside the World Trade Centers ecosystem that is opening doors across 100 countries
In a world where headlines are dominated by trade wars, tariffs, and geopolitical tensions, a powerful global network is quietly doing the opposite.
It is connecting the world.
Across more than 300 World Trade Centers in nearly 100 countries, a community of business leaders, institutions, and entrepreneurs is building bridges for companies that want to expand beyond their borders.
And at the heart of that conversation was the 10th milestone episode of the Discovery Series, a global discussion exploring how the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) helps businesses unlock international markets.
But before the panel even began, moderator Karnvir Mundrey told a story that captured the deeper meaning of global trade.
The Story That Explains Why Trade Matters
The evening began with a remarkable historical story.
In 1783, a young boy named Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy was born into a poor trading family in Mumbai. At just 16 years old, tragedy struck. His parents died. Alone and determined, he set sail across dangerous oceans to China to trade goods.
Storms. Pirates. Warships.
On one voyage, his ship was captured by the French Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. He was imprisoned. Most people would have given up. He didn’t. He returned to trade again. And again.
Eventually building one of the most successful trading empires between India and China. But his true legacy wasn’t wealth. It was generosity.
Hospitals. Schools. Bridges. Waterworks. Food for the hungry.
And Mundrey captured the essence of the story with a line that resonated with everyone watching.
“A trader is not just someone who moves goods. A trader moves hope.”
That philosophy perfectly frames the modern mission of the World Trade Centers Association.
Trade Today Is About Networks, Not Just Products
One of the strongest messages from the discussion was simple: Global trade has fundamentally changed. Success today is no longer determined only by price or product quality.
It is determined by who you are connected to. WTCA Chairman John Drew described the organization in a way that completely reframes its role.
“I like to describe myself as the chairman of a network – not of buildings – but of a worldwide community.”
Because while many people think of World Trade Centers as physical locations, the real value lies in the global ecosystem behind them.
An ecosystem that helps businesses:
• Understand foreign markets • Navigate regulations • Connect with trusted partners • Build long-term international relationships
And at the center of all of it is one simple but powerful concept.
Trust.
“The fundamentals of any business discussion come down to one question – can you trust the person you’re working with?” – John Drew
Why Networks Are the New Infrastructure of Global Growth
For Vineet Verma, Managing Director of World Trade Centers Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kochi, the future of global business is clear. The companies that succeed internationally will be those that plug into the right ecosystems.
“In today’s world, global expansion is not just about entering a new market. It’s about entering the right network.”
For Indian MSMEs and startups, this shift is particularly important. Many companies now think globally from day one. But entering a new country without the right connections can be risky and complex. That’s where the WTCA network acts as a bridge between markets.
As Verma explained during the discussion:
“When businesses connect through trusted global platforms like the World Trade Centers network, opportunities that once seemed distant suddenly become accessible.”
Why Guidance Matters More Than Information
The digital age has created an explosion of business information. But information alone does not create success. Guidance does.
Moderator Karnvir Mundrey captured this idea with an analogy.
“If you go to a huge library, you cannot possibly read all the books. But an amazing librarian can point you in the right direction — and that can change your life.”
That’s exactly what organizations like the World Trade Centers Association provide.
They act as trusted guides for companies entering unfamiliar markets. Helping them understand:
• Local regulations • Cultural nuances • Market dynamics • Business partners they can trust
Because while AI can provide answers, relationships still open doors.
The Discovery Series: A Global Exploration of Markets
The Discovery Series has quickly become a trusted platform for Indian entrepreneurs seeking insights into international business.
Organized by World Trade Centers Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kochi along with the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), the series has already explored opportunities in:
• UAE • Japan • Netherlands • Philippines • France • Australia • Nigeria • Vietnam • Belgium
The 10th episode brought together leaders from across the WTCA ecosystem to explain how the global network behind these markets actually works.

Despite the political tensions that dominate news cycles, the truth is simple. The world is still deeply interconnected. And as WTCA Chairman John Drew explained, trade remains one of the most powerful forces for cooperation and prosperity.
“Trade brings peace. Trade brings prosperity. Trade brings simple human understanding of one another.”
And perhaps the most profound reminder came when he emphasized something the world often forgets.
“We need each other.”
Because when countries trade…
Businesses grow. People prosper. And understanding replaces isolation.
The Future Belongs to Connected Entrepreneurs
The most powerful takeaway from the Discovery Series conversation was this: The future of global business will not belong only to the biggest corporations.
It will belong to the best connected entrepreneurs. Those who understand that success in international markets is not just about products or pricing. It’s about networks, partnerships, and trust. And through the World Trade Centers ecosystem, those connections are becoming more accessible than ever.
